REAL BLACK HEROES! OF THE PAST, PRESENT AND FUTURE!

Studies say Africans and African Americans have contributed immensely to America and the world. Mother Africa is the cradle of civilization, from which all mankind sprang-- where music, art, genius and invention started. The first brain surgery was done by Black men, Africans in Africa, and the first open heart surgery in America was done by a Black man, an African American.

Africa was once filled with flourishing village societies, often ruled by the people democratically, and with great Kingdoms and Empires, with Royalty-- Kings, Queens and Black Pharaohs in Egypt, and with beauty, learning, and splendor, it's been written-- before massive environmental changes, war, invading/plundering hoards, theft and colonialism, all but destroyed it-- over time-- and its vast, rich resources robbed, extracted and used to build up other nations.

Africa's gold built Europe's economic currency foundation-- like the slaves in the slave trade built America. Black slaves built America's economic foundation, both in the south and north, through agriculture, labor, and invention. They brought over medical and inoculation techniques, planting and building techniques, and foods that became American staples.

They created art, song, and music that IS the foundation of American popular music-- with blues and jazz being America's first original national folk music, created on American soil, along with a different version of gospel music, and expression of soul, revered and copied around the world.

The Beatles, Elvis and many others around the world-- have claimed their music was inspired from and based on Black music, and the Black gospel/church. African musical instruments and rhythms are also the foundation of Latin music and American "Salsa".

Blacks innovated, created new art forms and infused style, originality, ingenuity, wisdom, language, dance, literature, poetry, oratory and other genius , into British influenced early American culture, that became American culture--  "Americana", and along with immigrants, evolved America's language vocabulary, used by Americans from slavery to present day.

Black innovation in clothing/fashion, hair, Rap & Hip-hop, has also been copied-- in Asia & around the world. Black invention revolutionized many industries-- like the computer chip of today-- and yesteryear-- a device that made mass production of our shoes possible!

Slaves built American structures, roads, mansions and the original White House -- and laid out streets-- including in  Washington D.C. Later, a Black man invented the first American traffic signal. Both free Blacks and ex-slaves helped build and tame, the wild west-- as adventuring trail blazers who opened up passes, to pioneers, cowboys, business owners, farmers and ranchers, lawmen & as brave Black Buffalo soldiers, who made it possible for White settlers to get through. Blacks also lived with and married Native Americans.

Blacks helped build the railroad system, invented the refrigeration system, light bulb-- though Edison got all the credit--  and a telephone-- said to be superior to Alexander Graham Bell's.  Thousands of inventions by African Americans flooded the U.S. Patent office-- after slavery. Many, we use everyday, have made our lives easier, or have saved American lives-- and lives around the world, like the gas mask and blood plasma bank/transfusion, during WW2.

African Americans bravely fought and died in all wars defending America-- being mistreated by the military and on their return home. Many Blacks heroically saved comrades-- as pilots like the Tuskegee Airmen, and soldiers, shipmates  and Medics, with bullets whizzing by.

Many were denied due valor Medals. Blacks have been instrumental in winning battles-- in both modern day and early wars. George Washington-- and Teddy Roosevelt at San Juan Hill-- both raved about Black men's extraordinary valor, helping to be victorious.

Black troops also helped liberate the Jews from concentration camps near the end of WW2. Patriotic African Americans also helped at home, and with the USO. Excelling in most all sports-- Blacks made America proud, winning repeatedly as  International Olympic Champions.

Blacks have made important innovations, inventions and great contribution to science, medicine, education and space programs. Today there are many Black Astronauts that we rarely hear  about. A few of them are female.

Black tradition was helping others-- giving charity--even when they had little-- taking in the unfortunate, and other people's children. Feeding people was a tradition and pleasure, and big meals, a celebration with family and guests.

Blacks were church/God/family/community centered, starting organizations to help their fellow man. African American culture respects elders  and parents-- and reveres mothers, and chastises and teaches children respect.

Black culture is welcoming, giving and joyous by nature-- with a love for laughter, life, music & peace-- but often changed in reaction to how people were treated.

Blacks are a strong, creative, spiritual people, with a strong "truth" and fairness ethic-- it's ironic, that authorities in their lives, haven't always been truthful and fair with them. It is also ironic, that a "family oriented" people's  beloved families--  were destroyed as they hit American soil in the slave trade-- and that they have had an uphill battle ever since-- to keep family together-- through the decades of barbaric and socioeconomic racism that followed.

It was always the Black male that was targeted-- taken-- and the Black female forced to be strong.

Black people were in America before the Mayflower, and there is evidence, even before Columbus-- and were revered by indigenous peoples. Black people have been in America for over 400 years-- so Blacks are MORE AMERICAN than the immigrants that followed.. And it was a Black man that heroically took the first bullet that began the war of America's Independence from England!

There were many heroic slave revolts as Black people slaved for no compensation for over 200 years in building America, while others were paid for their contribution. After slavery, many Blacks in the south were cheated again--in share cropping schemes that kept them in bondage legally, working, helping land owners fill their coffers while they received little to no money-- and ex-slaves never got their promised "40 acres and a mule"-- to start a free new life.

Like Native Americans, Blacks were often lied to, tricked, cheated, robbed and denied-- on their way to trying to make a life for themselves and their families.

Blacks have worked hard-- for centuries-- built, shaped, gave, helped, sacrificed, fought, died for, loved, supported, saved lives, invented, contributed-- touched all parts of American life, and the world-- often under horrendous, thankless, inhumane  conditions-- YET have NOT been given the proper respect, acknowledgement and regard they deserve-- too busy struggling with racism and socioeconomic battles, to fight for proper recognition-- of their vital historical contribution-- and deserved reparation for their holocaust  of slavery, Jim Crow, hate groups, segregation and institutionalized racism-- while America gave billions to other countries, for less.

What other group has given so much-- while being beaten down?

And still survive-- still contribute-- STILL RISE?

Due to a pervasive white supremacy tradition in America-- and attempts to block the ex-slave acceptance into society-- Black contribution tended to get ignored, stolen, discredited or credited to Whites-- in their reporting, documentation, history books, mainstream and school textbooks-- as common practice.

But there is enough documented evidence to prove the TRUTH. Black American towns once flourished, dotting the country, primarily due to forced segregation. The first Black colleges and Universities sprang up, due to the same fact. African Americans created their own educated middle class-- supported their own Doctors, professionals and policed themselves.

Many Black towns were burned down by angry, rioting Whites----  who resented them, while other Black towns reached their own demise, with the oncoming of integration. Today, there are few original Black towns left-- with Eatonville in Florida, being the oldest remaining one.

America has had a lot of growing pains-- each immigrant group and racial minority, especially Blacks, have born the brunt of the pain, along with, of course, Native Americans. Now we have a chance to CHANGE-- cut away ignorance, hate & unfair negative stereotypes, by uncovering and promoting the GOOD of a well meaning people, who built this country, but were left out of the credit, positive imagery & discourse.

Let's change perception-- replace decades of lies, omission, misconception, and American ingratitude-- with TRUTH. Knowledge and truth = power and enlightenment. We can all help-- by respecting a great people, who have endured and given tremendously-- by understanding the truth-- and by spreading the word-- that Hero Is The New Black!

DID YOU KNOW ? WELL YOU SHOULD!

AFTER YOU DONATE: Check Out Our Website Here!
Hi! I'm Christi Luv! Did You Know? Well You Should!™ is a television show that was written and directed by my mom, Trudy Perkins, “Tee Pee”. She also produced it with a PBS staff producer, did research, and cast wonderful talent, to present a glorious celebration of Black contribution to America and the world.
We often hear about the struggle for civil rights in the Black or minority community, but we infrequently hear about their great contribution and achievements. This program, ”Did You Know? Well You Should!”, worked to fill in that gap-- of positive African American contribution to the building and flourishing of this great nation-- The vital facts that were left out of mainstream text books and media for centuries, and still today. Fascinating, little known truths about Black inventors, Black cowboys, Black pioneers, Black heroes-- and even Black Royalty. Who knew?
The program was a success-- well received, with notoriety and many call-ins from the public, expressing enjoyment, appreciation, and true desire for the information! I was a kid then. Now, grown up, I too am passionate about sharing these exciting facts with as many people as we can, to foster awareness and chip away at hate, ignorance and racism, through enlightenment. Knowledge is power they say-- and I feel Black History is more than "struggle" or just one "month". We should celebrate Black contribution "24/7/365!" After all, it's part of America and the world!

EXAMPLES

***Did you know-- that in the 1930’s American gangster era, an all Black town in Oklahoma put down the gang of the notorious “Pretty Boy Floyd”, when they tried to rob the town’s bank? A feat that many other towns had failed to do!-- "HEROES".

***Did you know-- Black scientist/inventor Louis Lattimer worked with Thomas Edison-- and it was HE who developed the carbon filament that made the light bulb WORK?-- "HERO".

***Did you know-- a Black modern day technological genius, Mark Dean, invented the 1 gigahertz computer chip, creating the 1st PC (personal computer) that revolutionized the technology world and put computers in all our homes-- like the one you’re using right now?-- "HERO".
***And that another Black genius innovator, John W. Thompson, is the CEO and Chairman of Microsoft today-- a Fortune 500 company?-- "HERO".

***Did you know-- 1/3 of the cowboys and pioneers of the American wild west were African Americans? --Or of the exciting Black rodeos of today? --Like The Bill Pickett & Real Cowboy Association Black Rodeos? Or The Arizona, Atlanta or Southwest? And more-- "HEROES"  keeping the American tradition alive!

***Did you know-- A Black Newspaper owner in 1917, William Warley, fought to desegregate a whole section of Louisville, Kentucky...and WON?-- "HERO".

***Did you know-- Black men fought in every war defending America, despite how they were treated-- including with George Washington and Teddy Roosevelt-- who both raved about their valor and bravery?-- "HEROES".
***That America owes a special debt to The Tuskegee Airmen! --And to ALL Black soldiers in WW2, and in all wars, who were not given their due?-- "HEROES".

***Did you know-- The 9/11 flight 93 co-pilot that saved lives by preventing the aircraft from crashing into the Capitol, was a Black man?-- "HERO!"

***Did you know-- of the many Black inventions that have saved millions of lives and made our lives better-- like the gas mask, blood plasma and transfusion, open heart surgery, refrigeration system, train mechanisms, traffic signal, fountain pen, or that a Black man invented a telephone that was said to be superior to Alexander Graham Bells’? And another invented the device that made it possible to mass produce shoes? WOW... We all need SHOES! Some of us love them --Those designer pumps and "sneaker swag"? Gotta love it!... These are just some of the registered patents and info found in research-- of Black "HEROES!"

***Revel in Africa's glorious past-- Black Pharaohs, Kings and Queens-- rich cities of beauty and learning-- before environmental changes, wars, theft and colonialism destroyed it. Did you know that Africa's gold-- pouring in, is what built Europe's currency foundation, among other imports?
--Did you know? Well you should!

***We also want to pay tribute to Black business owners and other successful Blacks who give back regularly to charity, youth and the community. Our altruistic and humanitarian Black "HEROES!"-- And to our "everyday" Black heroes who have saved lives, like Wesley Autrey, Dennis Codrington and 15 year old Temar Boggs! --ALL HEROES! New Black Heroes happen every day, like Feidin Santana!...
HERO IS THE NEW BLACK!-- AND the old...

THE NEED

You’d be surprised at all the things we see and use daily that were invented by Black people but credited to White people, or left out of our history books and multi-media altogether. As a result, widespread ignorance and the promotion that one race did everything, while others did nothing-- was allowed to fester and feed hate, racism, and media's dishonest propagation of the untrue racial supremacy that subconsciously teaches children to dehumanize and devalue people of other races.
A lot of damage was done. Bad and erroneous "stereotypes" need to be erased-- or at least balanced out with some good ones! We'll counter it with the
"HERO" IS THE NEW "BLACK!"
movement -- a way to try and undo some of the profound societal damage done by historical misinformation, by promoting real true facts. We are all the same under the skin-- but are too often judged or "mis-judged" by it. Scientists say that all of us-- mankind-- came from Africa...
Every race has contributed to community. Blacks have contributed immensely to America and the world-- from Africans to African Americans. Even the slaves brought over things we use today, like foods, building techniques and the first brain surgery, which had been practised in Africa for ages. It was an African man-- Onesimus-- who gave the first smallpox vaccine in America! It’s our right to know these things!-- And fun! Who knew?
“KNOWLEDGE IS POWER-- IGNORANCE IS DEATH"-- they say, so...
SAVE lives!
STOP crime!
STOMP racism!
It's time!

STOMP RACISM-- Contribution knowledge fights racism-- because it dispels ignorance and fosters understanding, tolerance-- and an appreciation of others, and gives a truer, more balanced picture of the world and society--
There's a need.

STOP CRIME-- Contribution knowledge builds a persons' sense of identity, pride and self-worth, helping him to be more productive and less likely to turn to crime... To know who you are-- helps you to get where you should be going. When a man knows better, a man does better-- because he knows he "can"--

There's a need.
SAVE LIVES-- Contribution knowledge helps protect innocent lives from being targeted, thrown away or ended (the statistics are staggering)-- by upgrading the mentality of people who might harm or disenfranchise them because they don't look like them-- out of ignorance, hate and fear-- it also uplifts demoralized youth's self-esteem--
There's a need.
Knowledge is an investment in our future, to make a better world for us all. I've had friends of all races. When I ask if they know any of this info, they say no, in surprise. We did an informal survey randomly-- and got the same reaction. Everyone we ask, if they know of any Black contribution, says "no", or says "hip-hop, MLK and the President". WOW... There's so much more! And a BIG need to know! --Who knew?

IT'S TIME FOR THE 3E's OF RACIAL HEALING!

  1. EDUCATION
  2. EMPATHY &
  3. EQUALITY

WE NEED MORE RACIAL EDUCATION, RACIAL EMPATHY & RACIAL EQUALITY
IN BOOKS, TV, MOVIES, MAGAZINES AND ALL MAINSTREAM MEDIA!
BOOKS AND ON-SCREEN MEDIA ARE SO SUPER-POWERFUL!
    YOU CAN HELP!

1- By requesting that TV/Hollywood execs show leading, intelligent, heroic images* of Black males-- who survive at the end of the movie! --Strong, diversified, and positive roles of GOOD character-- (We love Denzel, but he can't do it all) --and not force all Black characters to use foul language (or ghetto/classless behavior) simply because they are Black!
(This happens to Black actors routinely)
*It's hard for Black youth and others to feel like #BlackLivesMatter or that ANY people of color matter, in a society that only shows images of them-- as token, minor, negative, absent, follower, degraded, victim, weak, vulgar, foul mouthed, loser, inept, dumb, cowardly, clownish, perverted, thugs, violent, prisoners, hurt, inferior, sycophant, minion, bootlicker, suck up, beat up, beat down, humiliated, different, "other", uglied, side-kick, mate-less, love-less, Black-mate-rejecting-- 1st to die-- and ALWAYS "killed off"-- characters of color. This is how the media CONSTANTLY makes people of color (especially Blacks) look to the mass population every day-- and it's a lie.
A dangerous lie that trains children to devalue an entire race of people, be it their own race-- or their classmate's. And it lets people in positions of power think its OK to harm innocent males and use the law as a weapon to abuse, discriminate against, wrongfully imprison and/or end their life, because they've subconsciously bought into the media-propagated negative misconceptions and dehumanizing perception that Black and Brown lives don't matter, and that they are expendable.
The result: is Black and Brown youth, both feeling inside and appearing to others, as-- bad, inadequate, invisible, insignificant and disposable-- or judged as a monolith or a violent thug, for just walking or driving while Black. Serious work must be done in criminal justice reform, jobs and education-- but also: How can Black and Brown youth feel like their lives matter, when most mainstream books and on-screen media portray them as if they don't?
EVERY kid needs positive role models, heroes and "super"-heroes to aspire to!

2- Request that your local radio hip-hop station includes "positive" rap music and even "inspirational" hip hop, like Lecrae's "Made In America", for example-- And there are many others. Google "positive rappers" and "inspirational hiphop artists".

3- Request that schools actively put this vital info and images (like Did You Know? ...Well You Should!) into elementary through high school text books!
For more on what you can do to help, visit our website:
#Race4Hope-- JOIN the HERO IS THE NEW BLACK! movement! We can change the conversation and perception-- together-- all of us can help, starting now!

    THE PLAN

Our ultimate goal is to get this and other vital information and images into mainstream books and multi-media, in entertaining ways. And to compel media’s depictions to be more accurate and equally inclusive-- of us all-- and to tell not just “his”story, but the “whole”story.

We would like to help contribute to this, by using our creative writing talents to promote historical and present day hero stories and creative "superhero" projects that we have planned. Our primary goal right now is to first create a series of TV PSA info minutes, similar to "The More You Know"-- with supporting compilation books, based on our PBS Documentary special, "Did You Know? Well You Should!" and new research additions.

It’s exciting to open up that big box-- and let the little known fun- facts- fly!-- We challenge you, and welcome you-- to JOIN US-- by helping us to get this info onto TV minute PSAs and a supporting compilation book! I’d like to work on a mother-daughter team to get this DONE with your help!-- Brief, smart, creative, and entertaining-- our golden “Nuggets of Knowledge”-- will be made possible by YOU!
We plan to start with creating a 12 to 15 volume set of Black History Contribution type "Did You Know? ...Well You Should!" minutes-- that will break down into 15 or 30 second spots for TV broadcast. Our 1st phase is the “development” stage, which entails writing, creating rewrites, and launching new and added research, with new tools and compilations, among other activities. We will cover little known facts in the areas mentioned, and some exciting new ones. We need your help, to start seeing this vision to fruition. We also need the afforded time to finish writing our first Black Superhero film script and the tasks involved in the final drafts. Race4Hope with us! Help "HERO IS THE NEW BLACK!" move forward, with TRUTH!

Join us! On our first leg of the journey! Your donation can start the ball rolling with this first phase! Be a part of something great-- That we can all share with the world-- and be very proud we did! HERO IS THE NEW BLACK!-- Pass it on...
Did you know? Well you should!

    Thank you-- and God Bless!

She's been a college filmmaker, has written advice columns, reviews, articles in various newsletters, and was a teen journalist and music reviewer for a nationally syndicated newspaper. She likes to write fun musical parodies, meaningful pop songs, philosophical, relationship and news blogs, young adult fiction and books that promote heroes of diverse colors, moral wisdom, and exceptional genius. She has a passionate desire to significantly improve mainstream media, with desperately overdue, truer and better images of women, youth, minorities and Believers!

    • TP is a screenwriter, director-producer, and singer/songwriter. Her career has included Broadway, film (Hair!), recording, tours, a newspaper journalist and an entertainment critic. She has earned awards, starred onstage, and been featured on TV, jingles, film soundtracks and albums, including a self-titled album release (E.M.I. Italy). A published writer and songwriter, she has produced and arranged music, and produced and directed shows, including the PBS Television Special "Did You Know?..Well You Should!", which won wide acclaim. She has worked with youth and seeks to promote enlightenment, self-esteem and understanding, through knowledge and multimedia.

    • #HeroIsTheNewBlack is our campaign to transform our PBS film into a TV PSA info minute series and book. Ignorance breeds hatred and violence, as evidenced by Black and Brown kids who get abused or murdered in the street, or who drop out of school or get into trouble, out of depression or poor self-image-- in part because the society they live in, reinforces false images and negative stereotypes to reflect them, and few (if any) true images of positive contributors to aspire to-- like heroes, geniuses, leaders, scientists, saints and royalty: great kings and queens of color. Kids of all colors could feel better about themselves, go on to be successful or at least not worry about being wrongfully targeted and hurt by prejudice individuals, if we helped mainstream media/TV and school textbooks, to replace their negative, inferior or "absent" images and info of colored peoples, with positive, powerful, intelligent, good ones-- starting with Black youth-- but not ending there. And not just during the shortest month of the year-- but all year round, with #BlackHistory365! By throwing your support behind this campaign, you are helping us open a door to enlightenment, correct wrongs, help heal society, inspire, save lives and bring people together by shining the light of hope, value and truth to the world! #Race4Hope!

What We Need & What You Get

    • Your funding will go to updated writing tools and equipment, writing, re-writes, research travel, compilation preparation, proofreading, copyediting, public survey research, and a feedback panel, towards the first volume info minute choices, and also afford us the ability and time to finish our first Black Superhero film script, in this development phase, in order for us to drive forward to phase 2.
    • You will get exciting perks and special gifts to show off to others, and take pride in, as you see the project that YOU helped fund, on the writing phase of this journey, and on TV!-- But most of all, you will gain satisfaction and pride in being a part of something great: an action that informs, enlightens and helps to correct historical misinformation and omission, and begins to change perception-- by teaching racial Education, Empathy and Equality to society-- taking a bite out of racism, hate and ignorance, while improving the lives of oppressed minorities of color. This is a people's movement that affects us ALL. We are hoping this is only the beginning to respect and learn about all people of color, by spreading awareness and understanding through knowledge and images, and bringing all of us together as one humanity-- and YOU helped!
    • If we surpass our goal, funds will allow for more info and research expansion, and may afford us the time to write more on heroes-- both real and super!

    The Impact

    • Our project is valuable to you because you will learn things you had no idea about and get cool stuff in the process. It's valuable to the world because it will help to enlighten society, and may help it long range-- help youth (our future) and diminish crime. This is because education and understanding help to heal hatred and stomp out ignorance, which can save kids from giving up on life, due to demoralization, self-hatred, or from turning to crime due to lack of self-worth or hopelessness. It can help people from getting oppressed, targeted or snuffed out by those who ignorantly and erroneously stereotype, hate and prejudge them. Kids, and our next generation, must be saved from the disease of racism and hate, which is born of ignorance. This is a human dilemma-- a human right to be seen and judged fairly and individually, with respect. You can help undo years of misinformation and omission damage, by helping us set a course of change in perception with our "HERO IS THE NEW BLACK!" Movement, which can grow into knowledge of ALL people-- creating a better world for everyone. We are our brother's keeper! "Contribution" is as important as "struggle". It's the POSITIVE half of the story, which has been gravely missing in pop culture, media and schools all these years. We can change perception with truth. This is a project for the people-- that can have reverberating positive effects on us all.

    • We already have a successful track record with projects like this, ie-- Did You Know? Well You Should! --(the 1hr. length TV documentary), as well as hosted and produced a radio show (WORL-1270) of the same title, and a community "Success Spotlite" show segment, "Actor's Spotlight", and projects like "Smile", "Sneaky Blue Eyes" (Italy release), "Exuma!" (Caribbean project), stage shows,(talent, play, pageant), film short "The Babysitters Nightmare"-- and music videos like "Love Dance", as well as "In My Soul" for SoulFireTV*, "Broke" for KleverKomedyTV*, music video and album #LuvMovieMusicDream! for ChristiLuvTV*, and video/audiobooks like "Top 3 Reasons Why I Stopped Dating" for VirginLoveTV*, as well as sociological video blogs for GirlPowerTV* and BlackHeroesTV*, and film screenplay projects. *Web.

    • We are a hardworking, award-winning duo of many talents and achievements, dedicated to using our God-given gifts to enlighten and uplift the world, while entertaining and exciting you at the same time! We've been commended on our  creativity, ideas, vision, skill and the professionalism that we bring to our work. Join our "HERO IS THE NEW BLACK!" Movement NOW-- and benefit from, "Did You Know?--Yes You Did!" later! Who knew? YOU do!

    Risks & Challenges

    • The greatest risk we face is that we get the project made well, but not picked up to be televised in 2016. We probably will not run into any unshakable conflicts that prevent us from completing this project and meeting our standard of professional quality--that depends on us, and how much funds we raise to get it done-- and more importantly-- get it done RIGHT. The supporting compilation booklet is also more in our control. However, how soon we get the minutes aired on TV will be the challenge, as the timeliness of that goal being met depends more on sponsors and the networks.

    • We have experience with other projects, as well as meeting deadlines and unforeseen problems, and still were able to "pull it out of the fire" with success.

    • If we don't meet our goal, we will continue forward-- using what we have toward the project, moving more slowly-- and later regroup with a campaign to fund the second phase of this project. An option can be a plan to focus on garnering national media attention to this project, while continuing to build up the new relationships and supporters we spark in our always growing cyber rolodex. This is an important project. Crowdfunding will make it happen faster, and the people's involvement is invaluable and needed to do this. YOU have the power and I have the power, but together-- we share a GREATER power-- that can move mountains-- if we work together, turning project into movement!
